About
Our Club
The Fly Fishers For Conservation, Inc., Fresno, CA, is the oldest fly-fishing
only club in the
Western United States. We are one of the original founders of the
Federation of Fly Fishers.
2007 will be our 46th year of promoting conservation and the
sport of fly-fishing.
Throughout
our history we have diligently pursued conservation efforts, both locally and
regionally
that will protect and enhance our waters. We actively promote the sport
of fly fishing by offering
free year-round fly casting classes and fly tying lessons to both adults and
children in our
community.
Our club currently has fourteen incubators in local schools as part of
the
“Trout in the Classroom” program. We also provide financial
assistance and manpower
resources to The Federation of Fly Fishers, Trout Unlimited, Cal Trout
and the Nature
Conservancy.
In 2002 we fully funded an annual scholarship in aquatic biology at
California State University at
Fresno (CSUF).
In 2003 we embarked on a long term commitment to restore
Big Meadow Creek in Sequoia National Forest, a project that is well underway.
In 2004 we added to the scholarship amount at C.S.U.F. to
further enhance its benefits.
Our club also took on the task of hosting the Team USA Fly Fishing
Western Regional Trials in
2005 and 2006 to help select the national team which competes in the World
Fly Fishing Championships.
And lastly, In 2005 and 2006 we continued our fundraising for the
“Big Meadow Creek” restoration. So far we are about halfway to the
$141,000 needed for the completion
of the project in 2007.
We are a non-profit corporation, organized in
Fresno, California
by a group of devoted fly
fishermen deeply concerned with the
preservation of trout and all game fish, their environment,
and the quality of fishing.
We meet on the fourth Thursday of the month at the Sportsmen's
Club.
