Kings River Outings Report On Saturday September 20th a group of dedicated fly fishermen hiked about an hour above Garnet Dike on the Kings River to do some fishing. The weather had cooled a little and it made for a perfect day to be with club members on the river. Although the fishing was a little slow, this group was able to catch and release some nice fish. Bill Bruce and Mark Stephen seemed to have the hot hand. Scott West, Jim Clark, and Glen Andree came up for the day. Mark Stephen, Jack Leveque, Bill Bruce, and I spent the night at the cabin at Four and One Half Mile Camp. Good company, a nice BBQ, and a few glasses of wine made for the end of a great day. |
Outings ReportDinkey Creek It was a great day for our Dinkey Creek outing on June 21st. After gathering in Shaver for some food and drinks we headed off to the creek for an enjoyable day. The weather was perfect and the fish were biting. As usual the fish weren’t particularly large but were fun to catch. Everyone seemed to be hooking up. Glenn Andree, Kevin Wren, and Jim DeSwarte seemed to have the hot hand. New member George Folsom also got in on the action. Special thanks go out to Scott West and to my wife Patricia, for all their help. Edison Lake Conditions were perfect for our Edison Lake area outing. A group of sixteen people attended. It was a nice mixture of new members and long time members. Stephen Neal gets the award for being the best granddad as he brought Cassie, his granddaughter to the outing. John Cameron and new member Paul Bissonnette even brought their dogs to make it a real family affair. The group fished in many different areas, including upper and lower Mono Creek, Ward Lake, and Bear Creek. On Saturday night we gathered for a nice barbeque at our campsite. It was great to visit and compare notes. Thanks to all of you that contributed food for the meal and helped make this an enjoyable outing. |

OUTINGS
REPORT Hume Lake It was a great day on
May 3rd for our Hume Lake outing.
We were pleased to have a large group of over 30 people attend.
The weather was perfect and despite the fact that the lake was full of
fishermen, many fish were caught. Some
people, including Mark Stephen and Clint Thaxter, had a ten fish (or more)
day. In addition it was a good
year to catch some large fish. How
about that Bullard High student Blayne Mills?
He had his first real successful day at Hume, which included a 20
incher. I think I saw Roger
Miller looking on with envy. At
lunch we visited while eating barbequed hotdogs.
After lunch many people went back in the water for more fun.
Thanks to all that attended and special thanks to Sue and Jack Leveque,
Ron Manfredo, Dan Trafican, and Glen Andree for all their help.
Kevin
Wren with a San Joaquin River American Shad May 31st American Shad Outing
Back
in the 1970’s, the Department of Fish & Game- thinking they were
planting tiny Threadfin Shad- put American Shad in Millerton Lake by mistake.
The rest, they say, is history. Millerton
Lake is one of only two lakes in the United States that have a sustainable
American Shad population. Every year between mid May & late June the Shad
begin their journey from Millerton Lake up the San Joaquin River to spawn.
Spawning American Shad from Millerton range in size from 12”-24” long.
The action can be fast & furious for these feisty fish as we intercept
them on their way up the river. If you catch it just right, 20 to 30 fish
days are possible. Just ask Fred Ramirez! This year’s outing will be hosted
by Jeff Trafican & Bob Papazian. Coffee, juice, & donuts will be
provided in the SJ River Gorge parking lot prior to the walk down to “our
spot”. Call Bob (307-4601) or Jeff (299-0591) for details. |

OUTINGS
REPORT Pyramid
Lake Thanks to all of you that traveled to Pyramid Lake for our outing March 28th- 30th. The weather cooperated (other than a cold Saturday morning) and the fishing was better than any outing at Pyramid in the last few years. Many people caught a lot of beautiful fish. At one point Brian McManus and son Ian seemed to always have a fish on their lines. And some were big fish. There were many others also busy landing fish, such as Phil Davis and Fred Ramirez. After a slow day Friday, first time Pyramid anglers Mark Stephen, Jeff (Skippy) Allen, and Kent Younglund started landing some nice Lahontan cutthroats. And how about this: Deanna Burris, Dave’s wife, caught her first fish on a fly rod, and it was at Pyramid Lake. What fun!! The Fresno Fly Fishers really left their mark at Pyramid this year. On Friday night about 20 of the gang met at trailer #8 for a hamburger B.B.Q. This was a great time to visit and talk fishing. Thanks to all of you that helped supply food and drinks. I also want to thank my brother Dan, cousin Ron Manfredo, Mark Stephen, Jeff Allen, and Kent Younglund for all their help. If you were unable to make this year’s trip, hopefully you can make it next year.
